This coffee is grown on farms owned and operated by Café Femenino producers located in the Huehuetenango region of Guatemala.
They are part of the ASOBAGRI co-op, which was founded in 1989 by 20 K'anjob'al Mayan coffee and cardamon farmers. Despite regional political instability and poverty, ASOBAGRI grew steadily throughout the 1990s. The cooperative became certified by Fair Tade Labeling Organizations International (FLO) in 1999.
ASOBAGRI is incredibly diverse, representing 67 different Mayan communities across the northwesternmost departments of Guatemala, El Quiché and Huehuetenango. Members in parts of these departments speak indigenous languages including Q’anjob‘al, Chuj, Acateco, Mam, and Ixil.
